High accuracy of diesel simulation over whole operating range
Truck diesel YaMZ-238D
Due to the advanced mixture formation and combustion model,
software allows predicting with high accuracy heat release and other parameters of engines
over the whole operating range including low capacity and idling.
For all operating modes the injection profiles have to be
specified. Parameters of injection may be obtained from experimental data as well as
calculated with software for fuel injection system simulation.
Fig. 1 shows diagrams of simulated mixture formation and
heat release rate of truck diesel over the whole operating range, including mode of 7 %
capacity when all fuel is injected during induction period.
Preliminary calibration of engine model was carried out with use of
measured data. All following simulation was performed with identical values of all
empirical coefficients.
Different curves of heat release rate (black curves) at each level
of speed and load are presented in right-bottom corner of each pictures.

Fig. 2. shows integral results of truck diesel
simulation as compared with the experimental ones.
Relative error in predicting the power and specific fuel
consumption is about 2-3 %, its maximum value is 11 % at mode of 7% capacity.
Relative error in predicting the nitrogen oxide emission level
is from 2.6 to 8.3 % over the whole operating range, except modes of low capacity,
where relative error is more.
